Teriyaki Salmon Bowl
A restaurant-style dinner bowl with a quick homemade teriyaki glaze. High in protein and omega-3, balanced with rice and broccoli, and easy to portion for a smaller appetite.
Why this works on GLP-1
Salmon is one of the best dinner proteins on GLP-1 medication: it delivers a generous amount of protein to help protect lean muscle, plus omega-3 fats that support heart and general health. The broccoli adds fibre and volume, and a modest portion of rice makes the bowl satisfying without overloading it.
Because appetite is lower, a smaller, protein-forward plate often sits better than a large one. Making the glaze yourself lets you keep the added sugar and salt in check, which is worth doing since shop-bought teriyaki can be high in both.

- Rice, dryJasmine, basmati or brown · or cauliflower rice to lower carbs 50 g
- BroccoliCut into small florets 100 g
- Soy sauceLow-sodium for the glaze 1 tbsp
- HoneyOr maple syrup 1 tsp
- Garlic and gingerMinced or grated 1 clove · 1 tsp
- To finish, optionalSesame seeds, sliced spring onion to taste
Method
Start the rice. Cook 50 g of rice according to the packet instructions. Timing this first means everything finishes together.
Make the glaze. Whisk the soy sauce, honey, garlic, and ginger in a small bowl. Spoon half over the salmon and keep the rest for serving.
Bake the salmon. Heat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Place the salmon on a lined tray, brush with the glaze, and bake for 10 to 14 minutes, until it flakes easily with a fork. Brush with a little more glaze partway through if you like.
Steam the broccoli. While the salmon bakes, steam the broccoli florets for about 4 to 5 minutes, until just tender and still bright green.
Build the bowl. Spoon the rice into a bowl, add the broccoli, and place the salmon on top. Drizzle with the reserved glaze and finish with sesame seeds and spring onion. Eat slowly to gauge fullness on a reduced appetite.
